Chapter Fifteen

My dreams were as troubled as always. There were people and places I had never been to. There were lost loves I had never experienced. Only after I awoke did I realize I was seeing some of Shadow's memories.

When I opened my eyes, it was because there was a knock on my door.

“Yes?” I called a bit groggily.

“Sire,” I recognized the voice and before she could continue, I said. “Come in”

The door was opened, and I saw the same three maids walk in. "Good morning." I smiled at them.

The three bowed in unison and echoed. "Good morning, your majesty!"

The head maid, who I did not know the name of, spoke. "Your majesty, you should have called for us last night. We would have been more than happy to help you with your clothes and make sure you were washed prior to sleep."

(What are you, my mother?) I could not help but think. I felt like I was being treated like a child. Sure, I went to sleep in my clothes, but so what I was tired. Still, I did not talk back. I saw how the maids looked at me like someone precious, so I just shut my mouth and said nothing.

After a few more reproachful words, the maid said. "Milia Faith, The Royal Secretary, is outside waiting for you. The day has been planned out, and you have a busy day. If your majesty allows, she will also be here when you awake in the mornings. So she can go over your schedule with you first thing."

I just nodded and made my way to the bath. I felt gross and sweaty. (I miss my armor.)

The armor had spoiled me a bit. I would wake up as clean as a daisy, and the baths or cleaning my teeth was done more for psychological reasons than necessity. But now I felt like my breath stank, and I was sweaty. I walked into the bath and stripped after showering and brushing my teeth. I walked out feeling much more refreshed.

Looking at the maid who was about to speak, I beat her to it. "I need my armor back and on. I don't particularly appreciate walking about in courtier clothes. I want my armor and weaponry back."

There was a frown, but the head maid did not argue. She just turned to one of the maids who had red hair and told her to get the armor for his majesty the King.

Once I had the armor back and was fully dressed, Milia was let into the room.

"Your Majesty," She bowed as she entered the room. "I'm here to go over your day. Also, if you allow it, I'll be with you, sitting in and writing notes for all the meetings."

I nodded and answered. "Of course, Milia, I will be happy to have you with me. Notes will be pretty valuable just in case I miss something said. Please tell me what is on the docket today."
